If I'm really good at anything, it's sleeping. Always has been. I wasn't even the kid who woke up early on Christmas.
But for the last few weeks, I haven't been able to sleep for more than a few hours at a time. Even when we were in our super-comfy bed at the Ritz. And it's irritating. (Granted, I realize this is a far cry from what some pregnant women have to deal with but please afford me this minor complaint.)
I've always been an equal-opportunity sleeper: my stomach, my back, a side...I don't discriminate. But of course I can't sleep on my stomach for the time being and apparently sleeping on your back during pregnancy isn't good either (something about cutting off circulation to the baby). Now, not only am I supposed to be sleeping on my side, I'm supposed to be sleeping on my left side. And who the heck wants to stay on their left side for an eight-hour stretch?
So I'm constantly tossing and turning - grabbing extra pillows, flailing around, trying to get comfortable, sitting up and stretching, and then trying this whole "sleep" thing again. (Let's just say Chad probably hasn't been sleeping very well either.)
The second trimester must be God's way of getting you used to the fact that you'll soon be unable to sleep for more than two or three hours at a time anyway.

You got that right. It will be YEARS before you sleep through the night again. But then......every minute is worth it! Love always, mom
Recommend building a pillow fort. I can't say that you will be able to sleep for longer periods of time... you will still wake up thirsty or have to go to the bathroom because you've drank a 1/2 gallon of water between 10 pm and midnight, but from my experience, sleeping on a king-size pillow helps alleviate some of the pain in the left hip.
Loved the pictures from Napa! You look great!
I LOVED my body pillow when I was pregnant. Go invest in one, they aren't that expensive and they sure help the getting comfortable enough to sleep issues. You can hug it, wrap is around/under the belly, and between your knees. It was a life saver for me and I had a hard time giving it up after both of my girls were born. (Brad didn't like sharing the bed with it when it was no longer necessary!) Oh and as for the left side sleeping...I didn't for Miriam's whole pregnancy, it caused her to have severe hiccups! Yes, you get the best circulation/digestion on that side, but the other side is just as fine. It's more important to get sleep then to worry about what side you are on!
I love my mom friends. Based on these comments, I hauled an extra pillow into bed at 4 a.m. when I was getting so #&@#%! frustrated about not being able to get comfortable and had the best four hours of sleep I've had in weeks! Hoping that wasn't a fluke because I can't wait to go to bed tonight. Thanks! :)
